Collaborators

SMI’s Collaborators are organizations that are not eligible for SMI Membership but are aligned with SMI’s mission to shape the future of the healthcare supply chain. SMI’s Collaborators are ready to work and support SMI-organized efforts to achieve outcomes for the good of the industry.

Our Collaborators often offer expertise, research, and knowledge of healthcare and it’s supply chain, committing to active participation in SMI Forums and activities when appropriate. Collaborators understand that all outcomes, products, and tools of their collaborative efforts with SMI shall be offered to the industry and the public by SMI at no charge. SMI Collaborators help promote the use of SMI’s Tools and Solutions, support SMI Forums, and other SMI efforts to help shape the healthcare supply chain.

AHRMM

AHRMM SMI's collaborative relationship with the Association of Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) began shortly after SMI was formed, as the two organizations share the common goal of working for the benefit and advancement of the industry. AHRMM leadership has participated in SMI's Forums and Initiatives, while SMI has participated in AHRMM planning efforts and educational programs. As collaborators, SMI and AHRMM help to promote forward progress in the healthcare supply chain through their respective publications, educational venues, promotion of adoption of SMI tools and solutions, and advocacy of industry standards. As collaborators, SMI and AHRMM have linked their web sites to maximize industry exposure and access to their collections of resources and tools. SMI looks forward to a long term, mutually rewarding relationship with AHRMM.

The Supply Chain Executive of the Future
In 2015, AHRMM and SMI partnered to envision the supply chain executive of the future in order to assist professionals in developing their skills to better lead the healthcare supply chain. This short video webcast discusses the four fundamental pillars of knowledge and traits based on individual interviews, literature research, and other key findings. The ultimate goal of this project is to work together to prepare the supply chain professional of today to become the supply chain leader of the future. Watch the video webcast.

The State of Healthcare Logistics: Cost and Quality Improvements Opportunities
AHRMM and the Center for Innovation in Healthcare Logistics (CIHL) at the University of Arkansas conducted an online survey of healthcare supply chain professionals to assess the current state of the healthcare supply chain from a cost and quality perspective in December ’08 and January ‘09.

Healthcare Purchasing News

HPN OnlineSMI's has worked closely with Healthcare Purchasing News since inception. The two organizations share the common goal of promoting and recognizing advances in the marketplace and working for the benefit and advancement of the industry. HPN professionals have attended SMI Forums and Initiative Team meetings, while SMI has contributed articles and updates to the HPN publications. As collaborators, SMI and HPN help to promote forward progress in the healthcare supply chain through publications and advocacy of industry initiatives. As collaborators, SMI and HPN work to maximize industry exposure and access to cutting edge information and tools. SMI is pleased to collaborate with HPN and looks forward to a successful future.


ECRI Institute

ECRI InstituteECRI Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization that researches the best approaches to improving the safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness of patient care.  ECRI has been designated an Evidence-Based Practice Center by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and listed as a federal Patient Safety Organization by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  ECRI professionals have worked with SMI Initiative Teams on cutting edge industry topics, offering insight and education in support of the Team’s efforts. ECRI professionals have attended SMI Forums and are participating in the SMI2U webinar program. SMI has presented at ECRI on the mission, value, and offerings of the SMI organization, As collaborators, SMI and ECRI continue to work together to identify relevant research information and explore the application of that research for the benefit of the healthcare supply chain. SMI is pleased to continue its collaborative relationship with ECRI and  looks forward to a successful future.


Advisory Board

The Advisory Board CompanyAdvisory Board is a well recognized industry leader in research and strategic thinking and serves as an SMI collaborator focused on global research and issues related to the advancement of healthcare. Advisory Board has attended SMI Forums, actively participated in SMI projects and initiatives, and has also presented on advanced healthcare topics at SMI Forums, sharing insights on physician alignment, healthcare reform, and other contemporary topics of importance to the healthcare supply chain. SMI and Advisory Board plan to continue this collaboration to promote forward progress in the healthcare supply chain industry.


Health Sector Supply Chain Research Consortium (HSRC-ASU)

Health Sector Supply Chain Research Consortium The Health Sector Supply Chain Research Consortium (HSRC-ASU) is a research group within the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Leaders from HSRC-ASU have supported the work of SMI Initiatives and projects and have also presented at SMI Forums. The consortium’s mission is to perform and disseminate, in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, actionable research on strategic management of the health sector supply chain. HSRC leaders work to bring together health sector organizations and academic researchers to support industry advancement efforts through four areas: research, thought leadership, collaboration, and industry guidance. SMI looks forward to a continued collaborative relationship with HSRC-ASU.


GS1 Healthcare US

GS1 HealthcareGS1 Healthcare US is part of GS1, a world-wide standards organization that serves more than 200,000 businesses in 25 industries in the United States by facilitating industry initiatives, administrating the GS1 System of standards, providing education and support, and connecting communities through events and online forums. GS1 Healthcare US has worked with SMI members and the entire industry to promote adoption and use of GS1 standards (GLN, GTIN, GDSN) that will help industry organizations share data, promote accuracy, and work more efficiently—to improve patient safety and lower healthcare costs. SMI has worked closely with GS1 professionals on standards-related projects. SMI has been a member of the GS1 Healthcare US Leadership team since its inception.  SMI and GS1 Healthcare US plan to continue this collaboration to promote forward progress on standards adoption in the healthcare supply chain industry.


Gartner

  GartnerGartner is a leading information research and advisory company in the healthcare industry, providing research-based strategic insight to senior executives. Actively involved in SMI Forums and initiatives, Gartner’s healthcare industry leaders that focus on supply chain have also contributed to SMI and Forums with presentations and expert facilitation.  SMI and Gartner plan to continue our collaboration to support SMI members and the industry to promote leading edge approaches for the healthcare supply chain industry.


HIDA

HIDA  The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) is a trade association representing medical product distributors. HIDA focuses on advocacy, education and training, and research to serve the industry. HIDA’s leaders and SMI have worked successfully together on various initiatives and projects, and HIDA has been actively involved in SMI Forums, serving as panelists and presenters. SMI looks forward to continuing our mutually rewarding relationship to help shape the future of the supply chain industry.

SMI & HIDA have partnered with HIDA in their Healthcare Supply Chain Collaborative and produced a Demand Planning Roadmap detailing how to align supply chain operations between trading partners and provides strategies around communications, better demand signals, and data automation.
