SMI Announces Changes in Board of DirectorsScituate, MA (November 30, 2010): At the recent SMI Forum, the non-profit corporation announced changes to its Board of Directors. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMI, Carl Manley, Vice President of Materials Management, Sentara Healthcare, steps down from the chairmanship at the end of this year. Tom Hughes, executive director of SMI, remarked that “Carl’s leadership will be missed. Carl helped to create something unique and dynamic in SMI. His vision and direction have led to the collaborative success that today helps to reshape the future of the healthcare supply chain.” In an address to the membership, Carl commented that “SMI was founded based on the needs of the industry, and I can say with pride that SMI is the place the industry looks to today for leadership. With great pride and humility, I thank you for allowing me to serve as SMI’s first Board Chair. It has been my honor and pleasure knowing and working with each of you over the years.” John Gaida, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Management, Texas Health Resources, becomes Chair with the onset of the new year.
New board members for 2011 include Deborah Petretich Templeton, Vice President, Supply Chain Services for Geisinger Health System; Carol Stone, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, C.R. Bard, Inc.; and Keith Lohkamp, Product Strategist for Lawson Software. SMI staff and the Board of Directors thanked three persons who rotate off of the board at the end of the year - Keith Kuchta, Vice President, Global Accounts & Strategic Partnerships, Kimberly-Clark Health Care; Charlie Colpo, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Owens & Minor, Inc.; and Gary Wagner, Vice President, Supply Chain Management, The Methodist Hospital System. Both Keith and Gary were founding board members of the organization. All were noted for the commendable service to the organization.
